In The Old Ago
In The Ould Ago – Illustrated Irish Folklore, I shaped Johnny McKeagney’s extraordinary hand‑drawn record of Fermanagh’s cultural heritage into a publication that feels both archival and alive. My design approach centred on honouring the authenticity of his sketches, maps, and handwritten notes while giving readers a clear, structured way into the richness of his storytelling.
Balancing dense visual detail with readability required careful typographic choices, spacious pacing, and a layout system that supports Johnny’s humour, humanity, and decades of fieldwork.
The result is a book that preserves the character of the original drawings while presenting them with clarity, dignity, and narrative flow.
