The Iron Hag
I designed and laid out The Iron Hag and Other Irish Folktales from The Sam Henry Collection, a project that breathes new life into a century-old cultural treasure. This collection, reimagined by storyteller Colin Urwin, features fifteen enchanting tales, including “Finvola of the Four Sows” and “Deirdre of the Sorrows”, originally gathered by the famed folklorist Sam Henry.
My work focused on making these historically significant narratives, which were once recorded in archaic language, accessible and engaging for a modern audience. From the delicate cover illustration by Eileen-Marie Emerson to the detailed pronunciation guides, I aimed to honor the legacy of Sam Henry while celebrating the rich, enduring spirit of Irish folklore.
