The Adventures of ‘A Fighting Railway’
The Belfast Central Railway Company 1864-1885 can probably claim to be Belfast’s most important forgotten railway. Forgotten, but certainly not lost, as most of the nearly four miles of railway it built in its short but turbulent life are still in use today, and indeed provides the link between the lines coming into Lanyon Place Station from the north and east, and the line to Portadown and beyond.

Robert Phipps, through his book “The Adventures of a Fighting Railway,” breathes life into the BCR’s legacy. His meticulous research, accompanied by captivating photos and maps, fills a crucial gap in Northern Irish railway history.
